The mission of the Institute of Maya Studies, Inc. (IMS) is to educate the public on the pre-Columbian cultures of the Americas, with an emphasis on the study of the Maya. The IMS was founded in 1971 and is affiliated with the Miami Science Museum.
IMS produces a progressive and “cutting-edge” monthly newsletter illustrating important new archaeological discoveries throughout the Americas.
IMS also presents two exciting and informative public lectures each month on relevant topics in the field of pre-Columbian culture. Lectures are presented by experienced specialists and practiced professionals on the subject. Our lecture programs are accessible and informative and are presented on the second and third Wednesdays of the month at the Miami Science Museum. To view this year’s Lecture Program Announcements please click here.
The public is cordially invited to our lectures. A $6.00 donation is requested for nonmembers. Meetings generally start at 8:00 PM at the Miami Science Museum, 3280 S. Miami Avenue in Miami, FL.
The Museum parking lot can be entered from US1 or from South Miami Avenue, or you may take Metrorail to the Viscaya Station and cross US1 via the pedestrian bridge.
