The Institute of Maya Studies, Inc. (IMS) is a non-profit organization founded in 1971 and is affiliated with the Miami Science Museum. Our mission is to educate the public on the pre-Columbian cultures of the Americas, with an emphasis on the study of the Maya.
We produce an informative monthly newsletter and hold three meetings each month. In addition to our popular General meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, we also produce an Art & Archaeology Section meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, and our Board of Directors meeting on the 1st Wednesday of each month.
The public is invited to our General and Section meetings; all members are welcome to attend the Board of Directors meeting. Meetings generally start at 8:00 PM at the Miami Science Museum, 3280 S. Miami Avenue in Miami, FL.
The Museum parking lot can be entered from US1 or from South Miami Avenue, or you may take Metrorail to the Viscaya Station and cross US1 via the pedestrian bridge.
For information on upcoming events, please call our Maya Hotline at 305-235-1192.
