Xocneche

Archaeologist Tomas Gallareta explains to IMS members the different stages of construction of the main structure in Xocneche, a Puuc site. The building shows without doubt that the building was erected in either Late Preclassic or Early Classic; one more evidence that the Puuc area was inhabited much earlier than originally thought. (IMS members tour of the Puuc in 2006.)

Along with Gallareta are engineer Joaquin Rodriguez, who is making a study of construction methods utilized by the Maya, and Patricia Manfredi, an IMS member. Photo by R. Stewart
