Codz Pop

The recently excavated southern end of the Codz Pop in Kabah has revealed an inner chamber where remains of a ritual ceremony were found. INAH archaeologist Lourdes Toscano is in charge of the work being done in Kabah.

The Institute of Maya Studies, Inc. (IMS) is a member-supported, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1971 and is affiliated with the Miami Science Museum.  Our mission is to educate the public on the pre-Columbian cultures of the Americas, with an emphasis on the study of the Maya.

We produce an informative monthly newsletter illustrating important new archaeological discoveries and present two public lectures each month. Our lecture programs are presented on the second and third Wednesdays of the month at the Miami Science Museum. To view this year’s Lecture Program Announcements please click here.

The public is cordially invited to our lectures twice a month; all IMS members are welcome to attend the Board of Directors meeting on the first Wednesday of the month. Meetings generally start at 8:00 PM at the Miami Science Museum, 3280 S. Miami Avenue in Miami, FL.

The Museum parking lot can be entered from US1 or from South Miami Avenue, or you may take Metrorail to the Viscaya Station and cross US1 via the pedestrian bridge.

For information on upcoming events, please call our Maya Hotline at 305-235-1192.
